Thanks to all for the posts. For those this is a JX-17 I got at a hamfest
for $20. It was missing all the knobs top and bottom covers for the RF
Turrent. On friend gave me the knobs(he did not have the red ones for the
17) but, All shafts have the correct knobs. The radio powered up without
any problems and played. I let it run for several days on a 600 ohm load
and lost the output xfmr for some unknown reason. Another friend gave me an
output xfmr. I am hoping to open the bad xfmr and find a break at the
terminal that I can repair. The xfmr opened on the primary side. All
BBOD's have been change out - the RF Deck and the one in the mixer coil on
the side are a pain.
This radio has got two mod.s one for a panadapter and the other seems to be
a 2nd RF gain control. The new gain control was located where the dial lock
use to be located. There is a marked on the panel where a dymno label use
to be over the 2nd gain control. Both mod.s appear government installed.
Like I say I'm working on the mechanical but, I'm also repainting the front
panel. I picked up some aircraft paint stripper today. The closest match
for the front panel was Rustolem smoke gray. I will reapply a zinc/chromate
primer b4 repainting.
One more question - the RF Turrent cover has some corrosion that has to be
polished off. Is ther an easy SAFE way to replace the satin finish??
Thanks Agn
