Duane:
You are right on. I have dropped a check to Allan to help in my little way.
I am one of the 80% who listen a lot but when I post it goes to all. That's
the only way a larger group of us can reap the wisdom and experience of
others; maybe even we can share that way.
Best regards to all on the net,

There is absolutely no need for such a list, frankly. there is plenty of
bandwidth right here, all one needs to do is to utilize it. So do just that.
If
people wish to split hairs, they will. Dividing a list into subsections
won't
cure those with that misanthropic attitude anymore than looking at a bottle
of
milk of magnesia cures constipation.

On any given list, about 80% never post! Of the remaining 20%, about half
are
regular posters. the other 10% send private replies and once in a while post
to
the entire list.

We do not need more lists, but we do need to fully utilize the resources
that
Alan Waller, K3TKJ has so graciously allowed us to use. Have you sent him a
financial token of your appreciation this year? If not, now is a good time
to do
so. Despite the dellusion the Internet is free, it is not. Somebody has to
pay
for the computers, the phone lines, the servers, the routers and the
uncounted
bottles of aspirin needed to combat the headaches these lists generate for
the
owner.

We just had all sorts of controversy on [Ten Tec] about starting a spin-off
related to the (really old) Ten-Tec Power-Mite Series of transceivers.
Tread softly... I didn't see what the problem was THERE since the bulk (I'd
say > 95%) of the commentary on [Ten Tec] is about the MODERN stuff... but
some seemed to take offense. I also failed to see a problem since 1) I felt
the PM-Series was old enough and crude enough (I referred to them in my own
email as being from the Stone-Age of Solid-State Transceiver Development)
that I felt most [Ten Tec] subscribers might be bored/etc. with Power-Mite
QSO celebrations; and 2) I would have been among the 1st to report back to
[Ten Tec] anything I thought was more important than: "Hey... all us PM-2 /
PM-3 users need to get together and have QSOs!" Note: I was NOT the one who
made the spin-off suggestion, but I did think it was a good idea. The
bottom line was that the party who suggested-and formed one quickly on
Topica-just as quickly withdrew it due to several fairly nasty comments.

Here... I have a very different opinion: the entire Hammarlund HQ-Series is
a progression. The circuits overlap forwards and-occasionally it would
seem-backwards (when an older circuit was revived.) I cannot think of
anything I would have to say about ** MY ** HQ-180-C that I think the rest
of the Hammarlund reflector wouldn't want to read about. Yes, there are
some relatively obscure topics that could come up-the Noise Silencer being
the 1st one I can think of-but I THINK most everybody else would be
interested in reading about it anyway. Leaving only a few to hit that DEL
key. And with the majority of the repair, tune-up, and operating
information being backwards-compatible, I think almost everyone would want
to read HQ-180 'stuff'.

So, personally, I don't see what we HQ-180 owners would talk about that
would be inappropriate-or TOO boring-for everybody else. And, like I said:
there is always that DEL key!!!
