Check to see if you have the same problem with strong AM broadcast signals.  
I'm not familiar with the HQ-110, but on the HQ-180, hum modulation of strong 
signals often means that the filter capacitors on the AC line cord are bad.  
Look for a pair of them, one between each side of the line cord and ground, 
just where the cord enters the chassis.
