Several D-X publications quote Laine as saying that during these
turbulent times it is advantageous to have all your equipment hand
carried. He says that such rigs as the FT-897 and the FinnFet FF-1001
solid-state kilowatt will all fit into a small airline hand-carry bag.
Laine adds that if you work him, QSL direct to OH2BH. (OPDX, others)

THAT FINAL ITEM: W2NSD ADVISES ON THE WAR ON TERRORISM
And finally this week a word on how to win the War on Terrorism without
firing very many shots. It comes in some advice from 73 Magazine's
Wayne Green, W2NSD. And as we hear from Blair Alper, KA9SEQ, Green has
some rather interesting albeit offbeat ideas -- all using radio:
--
Writing in his March editorial, the prolific W-2-Never-Die quotes a
rather strange idea he says comes from Newsmax.com. Its a story
recommending that Israel set up narrow passages at every checkpoint with
sandbags to absord any explosions. Then use UHF transmitters to
detonate any explosives that a terrorist may be trying to sneak in.
That says Green would get rid of a lot of suicide bombers in short
order.
But Green takes it a lot futher. He suggests that the United States
adopt a psychological approach to fighting terrorists. He says that we
should set up a series of radio and television broadcasts in the Arabic
language. He says that the programs would be made up of psychics
supposedly interviewing dead suicide bombers who are screaming that they
are roasting in hell and not enjoying the after-life that they were
promised. The psychics would also claim that God is furious with them
and has put a curse on their families.
Would it work? On this one we won't even venture a guess. But 73's
Green does add this comment. He says that it is far better to outsmart
enemies than to try to outfight them. It's cheaper, says W2NSD, and
that it saves lives.
For the Amateur Radio Newsline, I'm Blair Alper, KA9SEQ.
--
Green also has some advice for the United States military on how not to
fight a war with Iraq. That one you really have to read for yourself.
You will find that information on page 4 of the March 2003 issue of 73.
