John,
i’ve been operating remote for quite a long period and…if you invite me to bahamas or FL i will reveal all the secrets! LOL
Just kidding (but i might accept an invitation…). My experience in operating remote has been without any connection to the mac, except internet for some device i will tell you later, and using the RemoteRig.
I had my tower with a 5 eye Quad few miles away from my new location (unsuitable for a big antenna) and decided to remote it all. I was using a Icom 706MkIIG and… remote rig. I see you are familiar with it, so no need to explain how to use it or set it (a big nightmare at the beginning).
I was able to turn the antenna, switch the amplifier no-off and eve all the rig on-off.
I was using a net-switch connected to the power supply of the radio (able to switch the radio on-off via a web page) and the power supply of the amplifier; On an other socket (4 of them) i had the antenna rotator (Yaesu G1000 with usb rotorcard) and i was able to move the antenna via software.
i know it’s a small description, but everything was connected to a small netbook to which i had access via team viewer and able to deal with all the commands: the netswitch had a ip address so i was able to switch everything on and off via this device, remoterig did not need any input (the radio gives the signal on-off). I don’t know how are you planning to setup your rig. i just gave you a small overview of the setup i was using until 18 months ago.
Best wishes and HNY
