Go to the Terminal, type cd /dev  (or do the SHIFT+CMD+G in Finder and
type /dev as the folder)

cu.SL_USB..... device (or browse for it in the Finder if you used the

If it isn't there, then the driver didn't load even if the hardware is attached.

Then I would expect that although the hardware is connected to the
Mac, it is shared with the VMware Windows machine and the WIndows
driver is what is actually allowing that communication.
