Dave K3DCW,
Yes, I am using the built-in USB port on the TS-590SG for both audio and rig control.
The Silicon Labs driver was the first thing I suspected so I downloaded and installed the latest version. It did not solve the fldigi rig control issue. The Release note said it had been tested for OS X 10.11 but not for macOS 10.12. While SL has not updated the driver for macOS 10/12, I do not think this is the problem because the Silicon Labs driver works with the Kenwood TS-590SG ARCP application under macOS 10.12. The Kenwood ARCP requires the use of the SLAB USB to UART driver for a virtual port.
Are you able to get fldigi rig control to work with macOS 10.12 with you rig?

The bad news is I could not get rig control to “Initialize" and as result fldigi could not display the frequency of my TS-590SG. The same version of fldigi works fine with Mac OS 10.11.5.
