[Ham-Mac] QST for OS X, fldigi and TS-590S Users

Attention: OS X, fldigi and TS-590S users
 
Last month I posted a caution about upgrading from OS X 10.10.5 (Yosemite) or whatever to OS X 10.11 (El Capitan). Additional testing has confirmed the Port Audio library currently used in fldigi has been depreciated by Apple in OS X 10.11. The fldigi developer is aware of the issue and is working to obtain an OS X 10.11 compatible library for use in fldigi. 

In testing I experienced a 100% repeatable failure using OS X 10.11.1, fldigi-3.23.02 with a TS-590S using a direct USB connection. After three or four quick transmissions (like CQ’s), the waterfall display hangs or freezes leaving the TS-590’s PTT keyed with no audio coming in or going out. The only recovery is to toggle the TS-590 power On/Off and restarting fldigi. Some fldigi users with other rigs and interfaces have had limited success.
 
I am all in with El Capitan but have to restart to a OS X 10.10.5 partition to be able to use fldigi. Stay tuned for an announcement from Dave, W1HKJ, for a OS X 10.11 compatible version of fldigi.
