[Ham-Mac] Help getting fldigi to find the correct .xml file

I have been unsuccessfully trying to help N5XRD by email and phone with his OS X/fldigi setup and something really strange is going on. No joy on my help.

N5XRD’s fldigi-3.21.81 (not the latest) is in his Applications folder and he has a .fldigi folder with all the goodies in his USER folder. He can write changes to his fldigi_def.xml and macro files okay; however, when he restarts fldigi, he has no rig control and the old macros are displayed. When he writes a change, the file date modified shows in his .fldigi folder.

I had him trash the fldigi_def.xml file and start over as a new user. All went well until he did a restart and fldigi booted to his old setup using his K3 macros. He is now using a Kenwood TS-590S. When N5XRD restarts his fldigi, the rig frequency box says “Enter Xcvr Freq” rather than “Rig CAT - TS-590S” and his old K3 macros are loaded.

I suspect there may be an hidden (invisible) old .fldigi folder somewhere on his hard drive and I do not know how to tell him to find and remove it. I don’t think he has a utility to let him view invisible files.

Any suggestions will be appreciated but be sure you copy N5XRD (see cc to this posting)

I have seen this problem one time on my setup and it was easily fixed by restarting the iMac. He has tried a restart and it did not work.
