The following is a copy of Manos SV1DAY's posting to the fldigi reflector regarding a OS X font issue that was hard to track down and fix. Too bad this reflector will not relay embedded graphics but the fonts in all his fldigi related panels were really hosed with strange looking characters - worst than Greek to me. Dave, W1HKJ, saved the day with some command line tips. When it was all done, I check my Font Book and found some duplicates that needed to be deleted. Manos, SV1DAY, now has his MacBook Pro working FB with fldigi.

After several email exchange with Dick and Dave , the cause of the problem was identified as that the default fonts were disabled, for an unknown reason.

One can identify what the default fonts are, by launching the fldigi application from the command line (i.e. Terminal application) with the --help option. One has to be in the appropriate directory first, where the application resides, which typical is at /Applications/fldigi-3.21.49.app/Contents/MacOS. (The version number of cource varies according to what version one has installed in his computer). Then, one has to launch the command ./fldigi --help. At the very bottom of the screen output it is reported that "The default is: Arial:12", at least Arial was in my case.

Then, launch the application FontBook and check what is the status of fonts Arial or whatever your default fonts is. The fonts should _not_ be Off as it was in my case. If they are Off, then right click on them and just select Enable "Arial" Family.

That;s it! Issue is reproducible and one can experiment, even to recreate the strange, mirrored, up side down behavior.

Thank you very much all.
