Well, perhaps the operator wants to run Fldigi or cocoaModem or some other
program through the USB audio while listening to iTunes on his speakers
connected to the internal sound at the same time. Can't do that if the
internal sound card is tied up. Also, a lot of interfaces will provide
electrical isolation from the rig, so there is no problem with ground
loops/RFI or the such.
Just different strokes for different folks.
