I was helping a friend with his direct USB interface and realized my Silicon Labs driver was probably out of date. The reason I used probably is I could not remember how to check the installed driver version level under OS X. Since I changed to the direct interface in Feb 2011 and the Silicon Labs web page shows a newer release, I downloaded and installed the current driver version 2.9 for Mac OS X.  The updated driver works fine with the Kenwood TS-590S with Mac OS X 10.7.1.

If you use the direct USB, interface I suggest checking the Silicon Labs web page for the latest driver for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
