Officially, the only standard (non-server) version of Mac OS X that can be run inside a virtual machine is 10.7 Lion. 10.6 Server can be run in a VM. Running the standard version of 10.6 in a VM isn't allowed under Apple's EULA terms and is therefore technically unsupported by VMWare and Parallels. 10.6 Server is $499 from Apple...
