You don't have to configure your radio to use VOX, but the SignaLink will still act in VOX-like manner. That is to say it will actuate the PTT line when it's ready to output some audio. At least that's what happens when we use it with our TenTec Omni VII at WA2HOM, our club station. It's a little annoying because the SignaLink will key the transmitter every once in a while while doing things on the computer such as accessing a QRZ.Com Web page.
