Good point Clint, some (many?) mics may not be strong enough for Line IN. Come to think of it, my electret
condensor mike has an amp built into the base. It works fine into Line IN but it certainly wouldn't without
that preamp. Plus I'm spoiled by the mic built into my Macbook. Anyway, yes, probably in general the best
approach is to the route the rig audio out directly to line IN (or maybe with a Y for continued use with
headphones etc).
