Apple designed and owns the MagSafe connector and is fully within their
rights to license it or not.
This is an amateur radio list, we are supposed to be above appliance
operators. Then again one doesn't expect much of top-posters.
If you really want a 12V MagSafe power supply then cut the MagSafe
connector off your existing supply. Test the voltage and current
output from Apple's. Find a suitable laptop 12V converter of similar
characteristics. Splice the MagSafe connector to your new supply.
You might use a generic male/female connector pair to make the splice so
that you can put the MagSafe connector back on your original Apple
supply as needed.
In the past there has been a good supply of broken MagSafe power
supplies on eBay. The PS may be burned out, or more likely wires broken,
but the MagSafe connector is still good.
