The Lion kernel_task is running in 64 bit. The applications talking to the drivers (MacLoggerDX, MacDoppler and MacMemoriesManager) are all running in 32 bit mode.

We run quite a few different adapters and built in bridge chips here for testing purposes and with all the Lion Developer Previews, Betas and the full release we just haven't seen any problems.
