[Ham-Mac] WSPR running in Sun's VirtualBox

I have successfully run many different Windows applications using Sun's free
VirtualBox software, but I have so far been unsuccessful with WSPR. The
program runs, recognises the USB sound card connected to my Intel Mac mini
(Griffin iMic), but refuses to decode anything. Observation of the
horizontal 'waterfall' shows that there is audio there and one can see the
characteristic WSPR traces but only for the first few seconds and the last
few seconds of any decode period - in between, the display is simply blank.
I have checked that the time is set accurately. VirtualBox reports the iMic
as a connected USB device.
Has anyone else tried this using VirtualBox? Maybe I would have better luck
under Parallels, but I have a dedicated Dell pc connected to my K3 already,
and my second rig, an IC-703 is connected to the Mac for just very casual
use and I can't justify spending money on Parallels just to do WSPR.
Thoughts and ideas appreciated.
