John, your latest waterfall show what looks like simply a transition between an empty buffer and when a signal is present once an unwindowed FFT is performed .  Imagine an FFT input buffer that is only partially filled with audio data (or audio data from a different epoch); the transform of such a signal produces a wide spectrum.  

It is perfectly normal if it lasts only for one waterfall scanline.

The only way the software can prevent that is to delay displaying the waterfall for one scanline after a receive/transmit turnover.
