Whatever the problem is, it is *not* a failure in Parallels; I connect to the internet daily, all day, at the office using Windows XP in Parallels, and it's absolutely flawless.
How does your Mac Pro connect to the network, is it wireless, or through Built-In Ethernet?
In Parallels 5, under Configure -> Network Adapter -> Hardware, does the "Type" selection match your network connection, either "Built-In Ethernet" or "Airport"?
Hope this helps.
