No router in use, although I tried one and that didn't help. Dish on roof>>>>>cat5>>>>>computer. Very simple. I left out one part: there is a "power injector" that puts power on the cat5. It looks like a female/female rj-45 coupler, with a wire coming out of the middle of it that goes to a wall wart.
When on FM, the noise sounds like static rather than a CW carrier...just enough to break the squelch and be real annoying in a couple dozen places on the 2m band.
