Cool. So then the folks who wrote these (and several more) articles  
don't know what they are talking about:

And I note that both Parallels and VMWare have added named pipe  
support for Keyspan serial drivers. But I said that in a previous post.
This approach mostly works, but does break once in a while.

VirtualBox is a very good Virtual Machine system. It would be wrong to  
overlook it because it is free. It is well supported and widely used.  
I don't use Parallels of VMWare for my personal systems simply because  
I don't like paying for things when perfectly good cheaper or free  
alternatives are available. That's also why I don't use some of the  
commercial ham software available for the Mac. As a long-time Mac  
professional I tend to prefer to write my own when I find it  
interesting.

And now I will bow out of this discussion. I have other things to do...
