[Ham-Mac] new iMac: parallels vs. fusion?

The advise about the 27" iMac is old and now out of date. Apple has
been working very hard to correct the problem. They issued a software
update for it last week. The 27" iMac should be a very good system at
this point; I would not hesitate to buy one were I in the market...

As for parallels vs fusion - be sure to also take a look at
VirtualBox. It is free and works _very_ well. Also, when you buy the
iMac, be sure to take a good look at the prootions available form the
vendor. I recently bought a 13" MacBook Pro, and picked up a copy of
Fusion 3.0, After rebates, it was free. As other have said, free is a
very good price.

You really can't go wrong with any of the three virtual systems.
VirtualBox will require a bit more work if you wish to use KeySpan
serial ports, but even that can be handled without too much work.
Support for all three is very good.

Me? I use both VirtualBox and Fusion at home and work. N1MM runs quite
well under VirtualBox. And, I will add, while Fusion comes with a year
subscription to a virus tool, I do not use it. The virtual system does
not see email, and rarely sees the internet (the exception is for N1MM
packet spots). I also have all my systems behind a good firewall. I
have no problems. That also means that I have all the horsepower of my
system to run programs instead of sacrificing much of it (typically
50%) that the virus apps take.
