Hi Dick,

Saw you on PSK on Aug 7th. Didn't have a chance to hook up with you as
I had to run out for some reason, but you were having a nice QSO with
AI4VR on 10.140 Mhz. I recall as I tried to send a quick email to say
hello and that your signals looked good here near Toronto, but must
have had your email wrong as it bounced back. :-( Think it was an ARRL
email?

Have not tried MMTTY but have tried similar with PropNET program also
with mixed results. I have the same setup as you just connected a
TS-2000. I should say the PropNET on Windows warns that USB sound
interfaces are not recommended. Here I was trying to do it virtualized
using Parallels on a iMac so I had every expectation it would not work
at all. It did work but results were only OK or maybe just really
didn't enjoy the experience the Windows XP or software was providing.

If no one speaks up with their experiences I am willing to try see if
I have similar problems with MMTTY. Certainly the Windows XP Sound
and Devices Control Panel takes quite a bit of getting used to. Master
Volume, Wave, SW Synth , Line in etc..
Add on the dials on the volumes SignaLink USB and finally sound level
on the radio out 13 PIN port, and well I think there is a lot of
potential to messing levels up.

Getting back to CocoaModem. I am not much of a contester myself so I
use CocoaModem in normal Interactive mode when joining contest. I
make maybe 25 to 30 QSOs then bail usually because other household
chores my wife reminds me of have not been done. :-) When I am
contesting I use "Log" button to link via AppleScript to MacLoggerDX
to lookup (not log) the call and it's MLDX that warns me of dupes. If
I make the QSO then I hit the log button in MLDX to record it. Works
fairly well, but I suspect it's not quite as quick or easy as
CocoaModem in contest alone. Would be nice to have log button and a
lookup button in CocoaModem for this purpose but as you say Kok (W7AY)
writes CocoaModem for his purposes and he is nice enough to share with
others so fielding all the requests isn't an option. I get this.
However, Cocoamodem is so tantalizingly cool and easy to use it's hard
to leave. Koks interest lies in the Mathematics of the encoding and
decoding of which he is it on a level all his own. Interfaces are not
really a keen interest, but if you ask me he's quite good at that as
well. He is hoping someone will use his encode/decode libraries and
build their own interface and share that with others. Alas I am not
gifted with the programming skills or else this would be an
interesting project.

Word is Macs are now 10% of Market share, up from 3 or 6% depending
who you read. I have observed that in Universities around here about
50% of students are carrying Macs. Not to mention iTouch and iPhone
(also running a mini version Mac OS X) So it bodes well that new
programming skills are blossoming. Alas sad to say not many of the
same age group are interested in HAM radio. :-( Maybe we can scoop a
few. ;-)

PS. I found this info on MMTTY so maybe you need to be using 1.66
version of MMTTY for best results??

MMTTY and N1MM working
August 23rd, 2008 by K2DSL
When getting ready for my first RTTY contest I couldn’t seem to get
MMTTY and N1MM working with my SignaLink so I just used HRD and DM780
which was fine. But I wanted to get N1MM working with MMTTY before the
next contest. I downloaded the latest version of MMTTY which was just
updated to 1.66 and isn’t on the official site. Saw a reference to it
in the MMTTY Yahoo Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MMTTY/message/10529
). I then followed the steps at AA5AU’s RTTY site (http://www.aa5au.com/rtty
) and it worked. Not sure if it is the updated MMTTY, a step I missed
that AA5AU’s site noted or I was just rushing to get it done. Anyway,
MMTTY is working fine.
