David - You are not paranoid, perhaps just a bit unfamiliar with the  
culture of US politics. The offer was real. I obtained a copy that way.

Jeremy White, CEO of Crossover, issued a series of challenges to  
George Bush in July, to meet before he left office. To emphasize the  
credibility of his challenge, he offered to give his product away his  
product, software, if any of the challenges were met. One of hte  
challenges was to reduce the price of gasoline (petrol) to below  
$2.79. That was met, so the software is free.

I believe I have heard of just as crazy political stunts from your  
side of the pond? - Duffey
