Smitty: When you say running, is the drive actually spinning or  
sleeping? You do back up, right? Mtbf figures are just average  
numbers, generally not reality, mostly idealistic manufacturers  
dreams. Too many variables, in design and application. Have had two  
WD drives fail in warranty in 15 years. Warranty 5 years then, I  
think. Only 3 years now.  Both average, everyday use. Not a bad  
record from one viewpoint, not good from another. You buys your  
ticket, you rides the bus...
