Xastir compiles and runs just fine on 10.5.
I built everything completely from scratch, started with installing
XCode Tools, installing macports and having it install ImageMagick,
curl. wget, etc, building my own libgeotiff, gdal, and proj, and  
building
Xastir from CVS.
