Hello group!
Question: I am wondering if the future purchase of a Tigertronics SignaLink USB for digital mode use will serve as double duty for a general Mac to radio connection for my logging software, etc.?
Details: iMac G5, Icom 746pro. Currently I have a Black Cat Systems USB CI-V Icom interface (into the accessory port in radio) so I can use MLDX with the radio. It works great. I had to use some toroids to keep computer noise off of 20 meters, but that's another story :-) .
Currently for digital modes I'm just using a pair of patch cables to and from iMac and Radio (no interface). The sound card output goes right into mic input and I use VOX to trip the PTT. It's a PITA and requires a lot of babysitting. When a PSK transmission is complete, I have to manually hit the VOX button to take the radio out of TX mode so it will RX.
Back to the original question: Will the SignaLink interface eliminate the need for the CI-V box, or will I still need both units?
