Well, based on a tips and web searches I:

--replaced my G4 MDD power supply
--reapplied the OS 10.4.10 updater
--deleted a number of files that folks said helped
--downloaded and ran "Onyx" a real nifty maintenance utility; that
led me to
--repaired the HD (it did have a minor problem)
--used Tech-Tool CD to test hardware (all ok)
--searched Apple Discussions and the web a bunch with no solid leads
--swore at my machine a LOT!

All to no avail....the machine continuously wakes up immediately
after being put to sleep. I guess I'm just going to have to wipe the
HD clean and start from scratch...boy will I be mad if it still won't
sleep after that.

One more time -- any other thoughts before I search and destroy?

Subject: OT - G4 Sleep Problems

Sorry for the extra bandwidth but maybe someone here has had a
similar problem with their G4. My computer intermittently (but now
continuously) doesn't want to stay asleep. I've gone thru all the
troubleshooting steps I know:

--Permanently removed USB and Firewire PCI cards (nothing now in the
backplane)
--Disconnected the external Firewire HD
--Disconnected all USB appliances less the keyboard and mouse
--Done Cocktail till I'm blue in the face
--Archived and Installed OS X back up to current 10.4.10

Even after all that it still won't sleep. When I look at the console
log I see:

Aug 16 23:05:20 Dino-Papass-Computer kernel[0]: System Sleep
Aug 16 23:05:20 Dino-Papass-Computer kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 !=
err" failed in "AppleLegacyAudio/AppleTexas2Audio/
AppleTexas2Audio.cpp" at line 3648 goto Exit
Aug 16 23:05:20 Dino-Papass-Computer kernel[0]: ^PSystem Wake
Aug 16 23:05:20 Dino-Papass-Computer kernel[0]: Wake event 0020

so the only thing I can see is this "Sound assertion"
failure....beats me what that is....anyone have a clue since it looks
like the only thing after sleep and before waking up.

Scratching my head and getting ready to go get the sledge hammer!

Thanks in advance!

BTW, for those of you with the QEX/Comm Quarterly/Ham Radio/QST CDs
you may want to check out Chen W7AY's QST Browser for searching and
viewing those collections...works great!
