Hi Rich,
I use a SignalLink-to-iMic-to-iMac & also had it working to PowerBook
and the new MacBook Pro.
The key for me was get level set correctly because if you overdrive
the iMic it will not perform the analog to digital conversion. Sort
of shuts down. (Hard to describe.) It like when you draw too much
from a power supply it "Crossbars" and shuts down. Pushing too much
audio will cause the A to D encoder to shutdown. (If you get it that
state you have to give it a change to recover 5 to 10 seconds you may
even have disconnect iMIC from the USB to reset it.
Connect the iMic to another audio source (Pocket Radio, iPOD, tape
player etc...) and crank up audio to 60-75%. Adjust the iMic switch
to the line voltage level (NOT MICROPHONE position its too
sensitive). When you have you input levels working for that device
then hook up to radio.
Now you can open up the SignalLink and make the proper audio levels.
I my case I think I turn it down quite a bit (not 100% sure as it was
sometime ago).
The external audio line out in my case is connected to a 13 pin
accessory port on my TS-2000. But I have played with it connected to
headphone jack even.
Should be no reason this doesn't work. The iMic captures audio from
any analog source and uses standard USB audio I/O into any USB Mac
Running Mac OS X.
I have it working with CocoaModem, Multimode, AudioCoder, Even
GarageBand and Quicktime Pro can record stuff. I can record some one
and playback the audio to show what they sound like to me. (Latter is
a bit trick as the Singalink work s like a VOX to engage the PPT. BUt
setting the level on Signalink in combo with output of computer will
get this working.
BTW All Macs with builtin onboard mic in ports are line level which
means you need a preamp if your using a Microphone. But perfect
level for input from a radio, tape player, CD player etc...
I am sure others have this working. Also worth noting there are other
companies who sell audio to USB devices. Griffins iMic isn't the only
choice but perhaps one of the least expensive.
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackUSB-main.html
Is more expensive but with 24-bit/48kHz sound conversion it is even
more accurate and makes decoding PSK31, RTTY, HELL etc.. with various
programs. I Still think for most part iMic is a good choice.
Maybe others can suggest other USB or firewire audio adaptors as well???
Hope this helps and I really hope you can get it working as I would
like to work you one day on digital :-)
Cheers,
