Hi Patricia,
Not 100% sure what you mean by workings. The processors are quite
different. G5 PPC is made by IBM. Intel Duo Core is made by well..
Intel. :-) At a very basic level the workings are similar. In the
same way I guess as a gasoline engine is the same as a propane
engine. Performs same function but do it in slightly different ways.
Your 1.8 GHz Power PC G5 will run RDCP+/MAC fine. It just the Intel
based Mac right now. I haven't done some extensive test but looks
very close to running and seems like perhaps some serial timing issue
introduced because its running under Rosetta. Don't hold me to that
analysis as I am not the author of software and is based on other
experience with serial related software running under Rosetta.
Good news is Jim Nedbalek replied to me.
"Actually working on another approach using XCode instead of the
Codewarrior Carbon project. No timetable yet but some progress
during the normal slow summer lull from client demands."
So the answer is he is working on it just bogged down with his
consulting business. Understandable I would say.
Certainly looking forward to it as an avid packet user. It is a good
piece of software. Let you take full advantage of all the bells and
whistles of the kantronics TNCs.
For now I am using Zterm (also running under Rosetta). It just a
basic serial terminal and is "old school" compared to RDCP+/MAC but
is doing the job and always good to get back to roots from time to
time. :-)
Cheers & 73
