I'm in a similar situation. My LaCrosse WS-3610 instruction manual  
says that ONLY a serial port will work, and specifically states that  
USB to serial adapters WILL NOT WORK. Not really an issue here, as  
the HeavyWeather software is Windows only, and I did not see any Mac  
WX programs that would accept inputs from a WS-3610. I guess it's  
down to buying a cheapo Windows box on the used market  to use as a  
WX server. :-(
