Hello,
Unfortunately, I have been away from amateur radio
for some time. Things change very quickly!
1. Macs Running on Intel Chips
This is an interesting development :) I have heard
that XP doesn't yet run properly? I have also heard
that many applications are not yet Intel-ready, like
my beloved Photoshop CS2. Are Intel Macs ready
for the ham shack?
2. Software Defined Radio
I attended an interesting talk last summer by Dan
Tayloe, N7VE, who has developed an SDR QRP
transceiver marketed in kit form. There are also
the small SoftRock type receivers. I also discovered
that AMSAT and TAPR are now affiliated with the
Open Source SDR project. Do any SDR programs
run on the Mac? In OS X?
3. All-In-One USB Serial and Sound Card Interface
I read that a new SL1+ contains a sound card interface.
Is this supported by Mac software?
My present computer is an eMac G4 which has
served me well. Hopefully, I will be in my new place
before year's end and getting my other things out of
storage. Whew, how to get back into amateur radio?
Any other trends of which to be aware?
