(I am cc:ing this to the ham-mac list in case anyone there might have
an insight into the caching problem).
I finally got the DarwinPort of Xastir version 1.8.0 installed
(thanks Corby for the hints). It took an hour or so on my Mac Mini
since all the required libs are downloaded and compiled in addition
to Xastir itself. Other than a checksum problem with giflib (thanks
Corby for helping me with this), the process was automatic:
"sudo port install xastir"
Of course this limits one's ability to customize the configuration,
but I suspect that could be tweaked a bit if I dig into DarwinPorts a
bit.
DB4 is installed and active but I am not seeing any map caching
either. Otherwise it looks fine. My thanks to whoever added Xastir
to the DarwinPorts archive.
