[Ham-Mac] Upgrade to Tiger

I'm about to start a upgrade to Tiger, well actually I' thinking of 
doing a clean install.

I have a G4 1 GHz unit with a 2 GHz Powerlogix CPU and 1 Gig of ram, 
I'm running 10.3.9 right now.

Any words of advice? Any problems encountered? I want to start using 
the Mac for ham applications after the upgrade, any problems with Ham 
software?

Will classic still work? Someone told me it wasn't supported anymore. 
I still have a few classic applications I would rather not do without.

I fail to see why doing the same thing over and over and getting the 
same results every time is insanity: I've almost proved it isn't; 
only a few more tests now and I'm sure results will differ this time 
...
