I am wondering if Tim has altered the pages since reported.
I am on 10.4.2 and Safari 2.0.1 and it seem to rendering fine. No
Issues.

If Tim hasn't changed anything then you fellows might want to check
your fonts and caches.

Fontbook in 10.4 can now find and correct font issues for you. Will
also so how if you have any duplicate fonts in System and personal
folders.
Cache reside in you home folder then inside Library folder.
