When the logic board is replaced, the sticker that is applied by the
Authorized Service Provider is one that contains the new MAC (Media
Access Control) address of the Ethernet interface on the board. It is
NOT the machine serial number, because when the replacement board is
packaged there is no way to tell the serial number of the computer in
which it will eventually be installed.
Check out one of those labels sometime. It will contain something like
00:30:bd:92:34:d7
(that's the MAC address of my PowerBook). It doesn't even resemble
QT03807TJYY, which is what an Apple serial number looks like.
