Only to the extent that you do your testing purely manually and ad
hoc. If you use any automated testing or even systematic repeated
testing, most of that effort is in developing and maintaining the
tests. Running them twice is no big deal, except that you'll need
twice as many machines in the lab.

This is addressed in the Universal Binary Programming Guidelines
document. The short version is, as you might expect, that where it
matters the programmer has to take care of it manually.
