I used 1" schedule 40 PVC to mount a 2m antenna. It was a 19" whip  
and four radials homebrewed from an SO-239 connector.

The 10 foot PVC would sway around a bit in the wind, but it stayed up  
for several years.

I wouldn't put up anything but the lightest and smallest of antennas  
using PVC.
