You can't if you use the Ext Speaker plug on the radio: however, some of us
get around this by using the ACCY Plug on the back of the rig. This is the
normal digital output and you still have control of the AF gain (volume) on
the front of the rig.

Some have been known to use a Radio Shack Y-connector on the External
Speaker port. One side goes the the Mac and the other to a speaker.

I have never really tried to record audio but there are several
shareware/freeware applications to help. One that comes to mind is Sound
Studio. Try Version Tracker and you can download it for a trial run. I have
heard good thinks about this program from others.

For my information does the iMac G5 have a Mic line in?

Probably simple for someone that has used the Mac as a recorder. I have
never tried it.
