[Ham-Mac] iMac G5 sound problem

Further to my previous request for help:

To try and track down whether the sound problem I have is caused by  
Skype beta 1.4.0.33, I'm looking for someone who has that version  
installed on their Mac and is willing to run a REAlbasic test  
application I have made - all it does is make a sound when a button  
is pressed - or in my case it doesn't :-(

I tried another G4 that has Skype 1.4.0.27 and it works OK. I am  
reluctant to ask anyone to upgrade to the later version in case they  
end up with the same problem, but if anyone has already done so then  
please get in touch.
