Hey guys,
I have a Pioneer DVD SuperDrive in my mirror dual G4 that has suddenly stopped responding to any type of CD put in it about a month (maybe 2) ago. It will still open/close under computer control, but that is the extent of it. If I "load" a CD, it closes, but never spins up or makes any effort to read or mount the disc. I have TechTool, Drive 10 and the Apple utilities, but can't find any diagnostic software anywhere which would give me an indication if the drive itself, the physical controller or the "driver software" has failed. (I'm wondering if something was deleted or mis-configured in a recent system update.) Computer also has the Phillips Combo Drive installed and it continues to work fine, so I at least have basic CD-RW and DVD read ability still. The Pioneer drive is still recognized by the profile software which pulls version and serial info - but just can't make it do anything.
Running OSX 10.3.9 (7W98) as have not seen a need to go to 10.4 yet.
Any suggestions for software based trouble shooting?
Thanks - Scott
