[Ham-Mac] Virtual PC and Keyspan serial adapter

Dick,

I have in the past used various Macs running OSX with VPC5 and VPC6
versions and a Keyspan Twin Serial Adapter.
These were when I had Jaguar (and poss. Panther) on my Macs. I have
never tried VPC7+. In each case the VPC version used W98 as the
windows version.

I used SD (a contest logger) running in a DOS window in VPC on the Mac
and controlled the radio via CAT on the serial port.
Trying to generate CW from the same software via the same ports didn't
work but I think that was a consequence of the serial control lines not
being consistent through all the cabling used.

I have used a windows program to control my antenna rotator via the
serial port/adapter which worked fine.

I have also used LogEQF, a DOS based logging program, to work with CAT
control of the frequency/mode on the radio and to communicate with a
TNC for DX Cluster input/output.

I have used a GPS update utility from Garmin under Windows and VPC to
download firmware updates to my GPS unit.

Lastly I have used UI-View, a Windows APRS system, to talk to a TNC for
packets via the serial port and GPS.

Oh and my wife has used VPC to run Brother Sewing Machine control /
embroidery design software only available for Windows to edit on the
Mac.

So I think you can say it is a little application-dependent.
