VPC does NOT "waste the partition." I run my VPC virtual machines off a
"machine image" file which contains the boot OS filesystem for each
machine. Have run FreeBSD, NT4, and Win95 all at once on a G4-400.
Each machine image file is as big or small as the base OS requires.
Once the OS is running you can "share" native Mac filesystems. Before
MacOS X I often fired up Win95 under VPC to connect to the fool
corporate NT "Server" to snag data I needed. Win95 wrote it directly to
the Mac folder I wanted it in.
