IMHO, "Spyware" is a over-used, over-blown term. There are very few 
programs which "spy" on you. Most of what is labeled "spy-ware" are 
just programs that phone-home to verify that proper licensing is met 
(ie: you're not running a pirated copy).

There's also a lot of hype (in the Windows world anyway) about 
spy-ware, in order to sell "anti-spyware" programs. Which work 
remarkably well considering there really isn't much spyware in the 
first place ;-)
