I don't know about "the most number", well I do know, OS9 must have
more. It's been here longer. If you are talking about current and
future developments then, OS X would be my choice. Remember lots of
stuff will still run in "CLASSIC" mode. But it needs lots of ram, and
I'm not sure how it will work on a machine with a 33mhz buss. Serial
ports are going to be another downfall with the 8600. I know there are
some issues with OSX directly accessing them in some cases, and it gets
worse with CLASSIC under OSX. Version wise I wouldn't mess with 10.1 if
you have an option for 10.2.6. Vast speed improvements and many
programs will require it anyway.

Here's what i run on my G3 450mhz iMacDV and my G3 400 Pismo Powerbook
natively in OSX or X11

Roverlog (TK/TCL) would probably run in OS9 too
Xastir 1.2.1 with a Peet Bros U2000 and with a Keyspan USB>Serial
Adaptor
EchoMac 1.x Runs smooth on 450mhz iMac (Echolink/EchoLinux client for
Mac)
