The following is an update on the G4 forgetting the Time/Day setting:
As suggested I zapped the PRAM and ran the MacJanitor again. I have not
been back inside case but will clean the terminals the next time the case is
opened.
It seems to be working now and the time tracks almost perfect with WWV. I
think the problem is with a bug or screw up in OSX. As long as I keep the
time in the manual mode everything is okay. I had to stop using the Network
time option other than to to manually set the time. BTW, the Mac OS9
Network Time Control Panel works great in the Classic mode under OSX.
The problem with OSX has to do with dialup connections. For reasons I do
not understand OSX DISCONNECT from time to time and DOES NOT really give the
user an alert that the connection has been disconnected. I don't know if it
is the G4's modem, my ISP or the telephone company. Anyway....when the G4 is
disconnected the network time thing goes crazy when it fails to get an
update and the G4's brains get scrambled and the Date reverts to December
1969. This hosed the Entourage mail database big time!
I did not have this problem with a broadband connection but it is no longer
used. I went back to the GBR (Great Barrier Reef) dialup connection as I
could not see the value of the additional monthly expense for broadband
service.
End of Shaggy-Dog story on Time/Date going to 1969.....I don't think it was
a bad battery.
