There's *definitely* something wrong with your installation, then.  Is 
it possible you still have an old beta copy installed somehow?

Unfortunately it doesn't look like you can just download a disk image 
of Safari 1.0 from Apple any more.  Try looking in Software Update (or 
upgrade to Panther, which has Safari 1.1).
