Good afternoon. I hope it is OK if I jump in here.
I guess I'm joining the discussion late but I'm wondering
what, specifically, do you believe is the problem with using
MacLoggerDX as a "serious" contesting application? Perhaps
we're not in agreement for what the term "serious" means
in this context.
I have used earlier versions of MacLoggerDX for contests
and found it to work just fine. But, I'm a "small gun"
and not typically calling CQ. My QSO rate isn't such that
I need one of those "MS-DOS/no-frills/just-get-the-data-logged"
kinds of logging programs. I thought I was being "serious"
about it but perhaps our definitions would not agree.
I would typically make 300+ contacts during the contest and
still get a good night's sleep. That seemed serious
enough for me. :-)
One thing that is not built-in to MacLoggerDX is the
Cabrillo formatting for the various contests. Well,
I wrote my own filters for producing this output for
those contests I was in. I'm looking into making a
companion product to MacLoggerDX that would format for
ALL the major contests. Is this (the Cabrillo stuff)
the major problem? That problem is small, at least
in my mind.
Anyway, I just thought I toss my admittedly limited
experience in here to counter the notion that
MacLoggerDX isn't good for contesting. I've found
using it during a contest to be quite enjoyable and
never felt limited by it.
Just another data point.
