If you have envied those in the PC world for their easy access to many
antenna modeling and transmision line programs, point your browser to:
<http://fermi.la.asu.edu/w9cf/>
There you will find, among other programs, two Java applets:
"A Transmission Line Applet"
and
"Yagi Antenna Modeling Applet"
These can be run on a browser, or downloaded to run locally on your machine.
They run fine on my Mac.
The Transmission line applet has a similar interface to the TL.exe DOS
program that has been included in some recent editions of the Antenna
Handbook. It is very useful and contains a number of files for most
transmission lines that hams use. Plots for I, V, Z as a function of
transmission line length are given. Very straight forward to use and quite
useful in modeling antenna/transmission line combinations.
The Yagi applet uses a method of moments approach to model antennas. This is
an original algorithm with W9CF and not NEC or MiniNEC. This applet provides
impedance and gain output, as well as elevation and azimuth plots. Several
examples are given, and you can create your own if you down load the code to
run on your machine. I deleted one of the elments on a 2 element Yagi to
model dipoles. It is a very simple program. There is no ground modeling so
all modeling is limited to free space, but it is a very useful tool none the
less.
There is also a T-network antenna tuner application.
These programs all run fine on my G-3 300 MHz running 9.2.2 using Internet
Explorer 5.
There is also a T-network antenna tuner model program there.
Thanks to W9CF for providing these valuable programs. As far as I know they
are open source and free to use. - Dr. Megacycle KK6MC/5
